Executive Director Note — March 2021

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, I am looking forward to longer days, more outdoor gatherings and the spectacle of the new season. Here at MAEE, we have a lot to celebrate. After six months of work, our five-year strategic plan is ready to roll out. We invite you to review the 2021-2025 strategic plan

As temperatures slide into the 40s and 50s and there are hints of spring, I’m reflecting on the celebration that is winter in Minnesota. Saying farewell to beloved winter activities — ice fishing, skiing, winter hiking, snowshoeing and curling up with a hot cup of tea — won’t always be easy. It’s given me a tremendous amount of joy seeing so many folks embracing ‘friluftsliv’ the Norwegian lifestyle of open-air living, over the past several months.

I also wanted to highlight a unique opportunity to stay engaged and earn CEUs. I encourage you to join Teach Outdoors! Minnesota for weekly Wednesday workshops. If you attend the workshops live you will have the opportunity to receive free CEUs. You can also present and share your work with the MN education community!

  • March 3 | Now You See Me, Now You Don’t (Observation Skills)
  • March 10 | Immersive Virtual Learning: Creating an Interactive “Outdoor Classroom” Environment Online
  • March 17 | Sit Spots
  • March 24 | YES! Outdoor Project Overview

We’re also searching for new board members. Join us during this exciting time for MAEE! I was able to hike with some MAEE board members at Springbrook Nature Center as part of their spring board retreat. It was a total blast and I’d love to have you join us on the trails and the team.

Stay connected and stay safe. See you outside!
