2016 MAEE Annual Conference: Grow in the Open

August 5th-6th at St. John's University in Collegeville, MN

Welcome to the 2016 MAEE conference, Grow in the Open. A quote by Walt Whitman inspired the theme this year. "Now I see the secret of making the best person: it is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth."

Keynote address by Chad Dayton

Chad Dayton is a passionate and seasoned outdoor educator. Having taught college English and writing for nearly a decade, Chad transitioned into outdoor education in 2009. Since that transition, Chad has worked widely in the field of outdoor, place-based and environmental education: as a field instructor for National Outdoor Leadership School, an instructor for Wildnerness Medicine Institute, and as a Director for Wilderness Inquiry - a Minneapolis-based international non-profit - where he developed the national youth engagement program known as the Canoemobile. The Canoemobile program engages 30,000+ under-resourced youth annually in more than 40 cities nationwide in water-based, environmental education programming with deep community impact.

Chad also teaches courses on outdoor programing and environmental and place-based education for the University of Minnesota. Chad serves on the Board of Directors for Friends of the Mississippi River, Dodge Nature Center, Minnesota Children's Museum, Minnesota Zoo Foundation, and Northland College. Unless he's hiking in the Rocky Mountains or Costa Rica, Chad can usually be found paddling a canoe on Minnesota rivers - preferably with one of his lovely daughters!
